A Hawking was a new variant of zombie with a comparatively heightened degree of intelligence.

Named after Stephen Hawking, these zombies were considerably more clever than other undead. Although they had no greater degree of physical prowess, one Hawking was able to enter a retinal scanner-locked door by ripping out the eye of a dead scientist and presenting it to the scanner, gaining access and eating the living scientist within. Another Hawking was seen during the parking lot shootout, climbing a ladder on the RV to get Columbus, but he ducked when Wichita warned him in time before it could kill him, so the Hawking jumped off the RV and was shot to death by Tallahassee and Wichita. These zombies came about between the events of Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap, when the zombie virus began to mutate.
