Later, he was accidentally shot in the chest by Columbus after Murray tried to scare him and Little Rock while they were watching Ghostbusters, his most famous film, in his home theater by acting like a zombie. The 4 then surrounded him and Little Rock asked if he had any regrets. Saying his last words "Garfield, maybe." Afterward, the group had a funeral for him where they fired into the air four times, prior to tossing his body off the roof of his mansion into a dumpster.

In Zombieland: Double Tap, Murray appears prior to the advent of the zombie apocalypse, giving interviews about his new movie Garfield 3. When Al Roker asked him to cough like Garfield throwing up a hairball and started coughing with him, Roker's coughs went from feigned to real, and he turned into a zombie. Murray dispatched Roker, and then fought his way out of a zombie infested hotel. Finally reaching the exit, Murray stared, deadpan and supremely unconcerned, and said "I hate Mondays".
